Tanias Mexican Restaurant & Store: Authentic Mexican Dining in Gettysburg, PA

This little restaurant was such a wonderful surprise today- had never been in, and in the heat, was picking up to take home. I did try to order online and it was not available, but the woman answering the phone made it very easy to order over the phone for pickup. When I arrived early, it was prepared and waiting. The store is stocked bountifully with many spices, baked goods are available in the grocery section, and there is an abundance of products not readily available in many local grocery stores. The food was savory and flavorful and I think I’m going to make a point of taking some of my kids’ for their “special restaurant visits” to this lovely treasure hidden amidst the local buildings of downtown Gettysburg. Often there is a theme related to the tourism of the area, this was a refreshing visit that felt like you were stepping out of the ordinary. Very quiet and small, but most enjoyable to pop in, I will be back- if you like a chain experience this may not be your cup of tea but if you like to explore off the beaten path, take a chance on this little nook in Gettysburg

We ordered an assortment of tacos - steak, chorizo, chicken, and some tortilla chips with salsa. Everyone in our group of six agreed 5 stars on everything. Plus it was one of the more affordable dinners we ate during our stay. Highly recommend!

Place is a bit “ worn “. Mismatched chairs and tables. I came here for food, not decor’ Was not disappointed. One of the best Mole’ sauces I ever had, ever. Filled with chicken. I travel a lot. Always Mexican food., this place is great. Service was good, very polite and pleasant. My meal was Mole’ chicken enchiladas. Update: 2/26/24 Stopped in while doing work in the area. Has exact same meal. Was as perfect as the first. They do have the best Mole’ sauce anywhere.

I absolutely loved this restaurant. It is the best Mexican I have had, with the exception of two places in Houston, Texas. The prices are reasonable and the service terrific! The Shrimp Enchiladas were amazing!! Do not pass up the opportunity to have a meal at this establishment.

It's more than tacos and enchiladas. If you want something special try the tortas. Get over the atmosphere and just enjoy the food. It's authentic. You will enjoy for sure.

TL:DR - Go to Tania's for a delicious & plentiful meal. Go to Tania's for a solid selection of Mexican produce and packaged foods. Tania's, in the front is a small, but focused market. With a variety of produce and packaged products associated with Mexican foods. In the back of the store, which is an understatement, is a wonderful made to order restaurant. I have yet to have food that I wanted to, but because of the portions, found it difficult to finish. OK to be fair, I usually order more dishes than my family and I could finish...too many delicious options. In both the store and the restaurant, the folks are wonderful. Ready to help and explain if there is something you may have questions about, products or meals.

Two words describe this spot….hidden gem! Tania’s will be our new go to Mexican restaurant in the area. It’s definitely a hole in the wall but the food is amazing! We had the chicken quesadilla and steak chimichanga. The proportions were great and the food was seasoned well.
